My name is John Engell. My first book of fiction, a short story collection, will be published in September 2024 by Short Story America Press. All but two of the stories have appeared in literary magazines, including The Chattahoochee Review, American Fiction, The South Carolina Review, The Carolina Quarterly, and South Dakota Review. The title of my story collection is Piedmont People: Carolina Stories.
I am a retired professor of American Literature, Film, and Fiction Writing, having taught for over 30 years at San Jose State University. Before that I taught at Davidson College, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Portsmouth Abbey School. During the last 10 years, I have written many short stories and 3 novels. Most of my short stories have appeared in literary magazines. I’m excited that my first book of short stories will be published in September 2024 by Short Story America Press. I hope that my novels will be published subsequently. I am a member of the Writers Grotto in San Francisco.
